My role
The vitamins of most public health concern are vitamin A, folate, vitamin B12 and vitamin D. Over a billion people worldwide are vitamin deficient or insufficient - it is an epidemic.
Current research indicates vitamin deficiency plays a role in causing 17 varieties of different cancers as well as heart disease, stroke, autoimmune diseases, birth defects, and periodontal disease.
Vitamin D3 in particular is believed to play a role in controlling the immune system, increasing neuromuscular function and improving mood, protecting the brain against toxic chemicals, and potentially reducing pain.
Research
Creating a profile helps to define our target user and discover their needs, motivations and pain points. Knowing our main focus of user types contributes to a successful product.
Persona
To find the problem around everyday vitamin consumption, following the user through their jouney of completing a related task is an ideal method. This table sums Mike's journey of going to the pharmacy without knowing his vitamin needs.
User journey
Customers are overwhelmed and clueless which vitamins to take or are simply not aware of their own deficiencies. They don’t know which brands to trust; there are too many opinions contradicting each other. They need professional help to guide them. It is a pain to look up and buy the vitamins every time before they run out.
The problem
I started listing ideas for the solution. Then I organized them into categories and created an Impact-Effort matrix to prioritize these ideas. The goal is to reduce the number of ideas until we can define our MVP (Minimum Viable Product). This is the stage when the product has the least amout of features to be usable by customers and feedback can be gathered.
Ideation
MVP feature list:
-
Onboarding (informative screens)
-
Account creation
-
Lifestyle quiz
-
Educational section/info on nutrients
-
Medical records upload
-
Manage subsciptions
-
Reminders (to take supplements, next order)
-
Consult with doctor

Wireframes
Sketches can be done in just a few hours which allows quick changes and requires low effort for iteration. Regardless, I always like to start drawing wireframes on paper because I find creativity just flows better that way. Once I lay out the main screens I jump to digital wireframing to recreate the low-fidelity designs.
Visual Design
Though the subject of the project is centered around health and there is a medical aspect to it, the goal was to achieve a friendly, non-clinical look and feel for this app. I mainly used light, warm yellow hues in the design with the contrast of a deeper green for an accent color.
These quiestions help the algorithm to calculate the ideal supplement mix for the users. For a more accurate vitamin plan there is an option to upload personal medical records. Dosie's specialized doctors analyze these records to offer an even more personalized solution. Users can chat with their doctors anytime they want.
